About the line

Line 40 is the longest commuter train route, linking Uppsala C and Södertälje centrum over about 103 kilometres and 25 stations in roughly 1 hour 41 minutes. SL introduced commuter service to Uppsala on 9 December 2012 when it took over Uppsala–Upplands Väsby from UL's Upptåget. The line crosses central Stockholm through Citybanan, the rail tunnel opened on 10 July 2017 with the underground Stockholm City and Stockholm Odenplan stations; David Svensson's illuminated "Life Line" stretches across Odenplan's ceiling. Trains also stop at Arlanda C, where travellers using an SL ticket must pay a separate station access charge. Since 3 March 2024, SJ Stockholmståg has operated the service for SL.
