About the line
Line 42 crosses the Stockholm region from Märsta in the north to Nynäshamn in the south, passing through the Citybanan stations Stockholm Odenplan and Stockholm City. The northern section serves Rosersberg, Upplands Väsby, Sollentuna and Solna, while the southern branch follows Nynäsbanan to the coastal town of Nynäshamn through Handen, Västerhaninge, Tungelsta and Ösmo. Commuter trains reached Märsta on 1 June 1969 and began running on Nynäsbanan in 1973; the railway itself opened to public traffic in 1901. The line is double-tracked between Älvsjö and Hemfosa but single-tracked from Hemfosa to Nynäshamn. At Stockholm Odenplan, David Svensson's illuminated "Life Line" traces the pulse of the artist's newborn son.
