About the station and area

Blackeberg station was put into use on 26 October 1952 when the Hötorget–Vällingby subway was inaugurated. The Biljetthallen was designed by Peter Celsing and has a free-spanning roof (a flat dome) of reinforced concrete — a building that the City Museum in Stockholm has blue-classified, which means that it is deemed to have particularly high cultural and historical values. The station is partly above ground: about two-thirds of the platform is outdoors, while the remaining third runs into a rock tunnel under Blackebergsplan, decorated with green, blue and yellow tiles. In 1987, the station received naturalistic paintings on glazed tiles by Ruben Heleander, within the framework of art in the Stockholm subway. The station serves the Blackeberg district in Bromma, which was built up mainly during the 1950s and is known as the setting in the novel "Let the Right One Come In".
