About the station and area
Rinkeby subway station was opened on 31 August 1975 when the blue line was inaugurated and is located in a rock room approximately 29 meters below ground. The station's decoration is made by the artists Nisse Zetterberg, Sven Sahlberg and Lennart Gram. Against the rust-red rock walls shine gold mosaics representing ancient finds from the Viking Age, found during excavations in the area, and in the central vault there are two rune stones in mosaic – an allusion to the fact that Rinkeby is located in one of the richest rune stone areas in the Stockholm area. The station serves the Rinkeby district in Västerort and has its ticket hall at Rinkebytorget.
