Stockholm's metro is being extended along four new stretches. Here is what is being built, which stations are added and when they open – sourced solely from Region Stockholm's own figures.

Akalla–Barkarby
The blue line is extended four kilometres beyond Akalla with two new stations. Barkarby station is built next to the Barkarby commuter rail station, tying the metro into the commuter trains.
New stations: Barkarbystaden, Barkarby
Opening, according to Region Stockholm: December 2027
Odenplan–Arenastaden
The green line is extended from Odenplan to Arenastaden with three new stations in Stockholm and Solna.
New stations: Hagastaden, Södra Hagalund, Arenastaden
Opening, according to Region Stockholm: 2028
Kungsträdgården–Nacka och Söderort
The blue line is extended from Kungsträdgården and splits at the new Sofia station on Södermalm: one branch east to Nacka and one south via Gullmarsplan. Gullmarsplan gains a new platform for the blue line, and a new station is built in the middle of the new Slakthusområdet district.
New stations: Sofia, Hammarby kanal, Sickla, Järla, Nacka, Gullmarsplan, Slakthusområdet

Fridhemsplan–Älvsjö
An entirely new metro line between Fridhemsplan and Älvsjö with six stations. Fridhemsplan gains a platform beneath the blue and green lines, and Liljeholmen one beneath the red line.
New stations: Fridhemsplan, Liljeholmen, Årstaberg, Årstafältet, Östbergahöjden, Älvsjö
Construction starts 2026 and is estimated at about 9 years. Region Stockholm states no opening year.
Part of the expansion changes journeys people already make today: the Hagsätra branch changes line.
