About the station and area
Aspudden was opened on 5 April 1964 in connection with the inauguration of the first stage of the subway's red line. The station is blasted into the rock and is located in a rock tunnel 15–20 meters below the ground. The artistic decoration was added in 1987 and is created by Pär Gunnar Thelander; it consists of a penguin sculpture and enamelled reliefs on the track walls. The station serves the district of Aspudden in Söderort, an area known for its art nouveau buildings from the 1910s, with, among other things, Aspuddsparken and Aspudden's school nearby.
