About the station and area
Bandhagen opened on 22 November 1954 in connection with the subway being extended from Stureby to Högdalen, and was designed by the architect Magnus Ahlgren. The station is above ground, partly on a viaduct over Trollesundsvägen, and serves the Bandhagen neighborhood in Söderort with an entrance to the south from Bandhagsplan. Bandhagen's center was inaugurated in 1954 together with the subway station and is located next to it. The artistic decoration consists of a large thumbstick and a block of island stone by Freddy Fraek (1983); the thumbstick was originally made of wood, but was worn so badly that it had to be clad in copper four years later.
