About the station and area
Bredäng opened on May 16, 1965, when the red line was extended south past the then terminus Örnsberg with the new stations Axelsberg, Mälarhöjden, Bredäng and Sätra. Unlike the subway's well-known cave stations, blasted directly into the rock, Bredäng is an above-ground station on an approximately 180-meter-long viaduct over Bredäng avenue. In the ticket hall is the artwork Pusselbitar, wooden reliefs that Lena Kriström executed together with residents of Bredäng in 1982 and completed in 1999 - part of the art that has given Stockholm's subway the reputation of being the world's longest art exhibition. The station is located in the district of Bredäng in Söderort, within walking distance to the Sätraskogen nature reserve and Mälaren beach.
