About the station and area
Skanstull is one of the subway's oldest underground stations and opened in 1933 under the name Ringvägen, designed by architects Holger Blom and Gunnar Lené with Berlin's U-Bahn as a model; the current name was given to the station in 1950. Unlike the later underground stations, Skanstull is located in the shallow Södertunneln, which was originally built for tram traffic. The station is located on Södermalm at the intersection of Ringvägen and Götgatan, near the swimming pool Eriksdalsbadet, and since 2004 has housed the art project Konstväxlingar, where video art is shown on screens in the ticket hall.
