About the station and area
Skarpnäck was inaugurated on 15 August 1994 as the metro network's hundredth station and is the southern terminus of line 17 on the green line. The station is approximately 25 meters below ground and has a single arch that spans the platform – with a span of 22 meters the largest in Stockholm's subway. The artistic decoration is by Richard Nonas and consists of seventeen bench-like sculptures in dark granite on the platform as well as a red floor and red walls that allude to the red brick houses of the Skarpnäcksfältet neighborhood above, which was built in the 1980s and consists almost exclusively of red brick buildings.
