About the station and area
Åkeshov opened on 26 October 1952 when the Hötorget–Vällingby section was inaugurated, and is an above-ground station with two outdoor platforms and a turning track in between. In the ticket hall stands Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd's sculpture Non-Violence ("The Knotted Revolver") – a revolver with a knotted barrel, the same motif as his most famous version outside the UN headquarters in New York – which was inaugurated here in 1998. The station is located in Bromma, near Åkeshov's castle, and nearby is Åkeshov's swimming and sports hall on Bergslagsvägen.
