About the station and area
Gärdet opened on September 2, 1967 as part of the subway extension from Östermalmstorg towards Ropsten and is embedded in the rock under the Ladugårdsgärdet district in Östermalm. The station's decoration was created by the artist Karl Axel Pehrson, who in stands along the platform displays fictional fantasy beetles under the title "Animals that don't exist" - the same artist who in 1964 designed the Swedish film prize Guldbaggen in the form of a beetle.
