About the station and area
Gubbängen was inaugurated on 1 October 1950 as part of the subway's first section between Slussen and Hökarängen. The station is at ground level, with an outdoor platform along Lingvägen and Gubbängstorget, and to the south the line is led on a viaduct over Gubbängsfältet – a remnant of the meadow land that once belonged to Gubbängen's farm. The station serves the Gubbängen district in Söderort, which was built in the 1940s and 1950s as one of the early subway suburbs. In the station are Ragnhild Alexandersson's two bronze sculptures Guardians from 1994.
