About the station and area
The station opened on October 1, 1950 and was originally called Kyrkogården, a name that was changed to Skogskyrkogården on November 19, 1958. Unlike the subway's famous underground stations, this is an above-ground station in Gamla Enskede in Söderort, and on it is a wooden sculpture by Hans Bartos from 1975. The station is located next to the Skogskyrkogården burial ground, laid out by architects Gunnar Asplund and Sigurd Lewerentz and since 1994 included in the UNESCO world heritage list.
