About the station and area

Slussen was inaugurated on 1 October 1933 as the terminus of a tramway tunnel and became a subway station on 1 October 1950. The station is located on Södermalm at Söderström's locks, with ramps towards Södermalmstorg and Götgatan in connection with Katarinahissen, Saltsjöbanan and the bus service towards Nacka and Värmdö, and is one of the subway's interchange points between the red and green lines. Unlike the blasted mountain stations, Slussen is built in concrete (cut-and-cover) with tiled walls, and it is part of SL's Konstväxlingar with temporary art exhibitions that are exchanged - Liv Strömquist's series The Night Garden 2017-2018 was shown here, among other things.
